UPMC Presbyterian was founded in 1893, and is today, one of the finest hospitals in all of Pittsburgh. Actually, UPMC Presbyterian is also one of the finest hospitals in all of Pennsylvania, and as you will find out, UPMC Presbyterian is one of the finest hospitals in all of America. Located at 200 Lothrop Street, in Pittsburgh, UPMC Presbyterian is affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine.

UPMC Presbyterian was recently ranked 43rd in a survey of The Top 50 Hospitals in America. The survey was done by Consumer's Checkbook, and was published in Modern Maturity, a publication of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). The survey judged hospitals using various criteria such as: medical mortality rate, surgery mortality rate, physician ratings (how doctors rate a particular hospital), and accreditation scores (given by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations).

Also, in U.S. News and World Report, in the July 2004 issue, the magazine rated "America's Best Hospitals". UPMC Presbyterian had one of the nation's best overall ratings. (That is even more impressive when you consider the magazine did evaluations on 1958 U.S. hospitals). Also the specialties at UPMC Presbyterian were rated among the best in the nation, in 10 different categories. Those ratings were: rheumatology- 12th best in the nation; respiratory disorders- 20th best; orthopedics- 14th best; kidney disease- 18th best; geriatrics- 28th best; digestive disorders- 16th best; cancer- 21st best; ear, nose, and throat- 6th best; psychiatry- 9th best; neurology and neurosurgery- 39th best.

At press time, UPMC Presbyterian had numerous openings on its nursing staff. The openings were in various departments at UPMC Presbyterian where they hire only the finest.
