Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals have five different locations in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the surrounding area. Those locations are: Center City; Ford Road; Methodist Hospital; and Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience. Also, there is Jefferson Healthcare- Voorhees, which is in New Jersey. (Across the river from Philadelphia).

Combined, Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals have 932 beds (acute care) and 180 beds (sub-acute and long-term care). Founded in 1825, Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals have over 1400 registered nurses on staff. And, they currently (at press time) have the need for more nurses.

Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals were recently ranked the 37th best in the nation, in a ranking of The Top 50 Hospitals in America. That list was compiled by Consumer's Checkbook (a consumer group) and was published in Modern Maturity, an AARP publication. The criteria used for ranking hospitals were: medical mortality rate, surgical mortality rate, physician ratings (how doctors rate a particular hospital), and accreditation scores (scores given by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations).

Also, U.S. News and World Report, in its 2004 issue on "America's Best Hospitals", ranked Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals as being among our nation's best. Here are the nine different Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals specialties which garnered national recognition and their national rankings: geriatrics- 38th best in the nation; urology- 31st best; rehabilitation- 11th best; orthopedics- 17th best; neurology and neurosurgery- 50th best; gynecology- 43rd best; digestive disorders- 32nd best; heart and heart surgery- 49th best; ear, nose, and throat- 42nd best.

Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals had over 40,000 admissions in 2002. Also, there were 477,000+ outpatient visits and 80,000+ emergency room visits.
