St. John's Health Center of Santa Monica, California was founded in 1942, by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. The sisters, who moved from Kansas to California, helped open St. John's as a part of their mission of care and service. The health center was founded, with these words as words of inspiration, "Major horum est caritas". Those Latin words mean, "The greatest of these is love".

St. John's Health Center of Santa Monica has a historic past, that's for sure. But, the present and future, at St. John's Health Center are pretty noteworthy as well. For example, presently, St. John's Health Center is rated one of the Top 50 Hospitals in America, by Modern Maturity magazine, a publication of the AARP. St. John's Health Center is ranked 12th overall. The ratings are based on: surgical mortality rates, medical mortality rates, physician ratings, and accreditation score (score given by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations).

As far as the future- the future at St. John's Health Center is building, so to speak. What we mean by that is, construction on a new St. John's Health Center campus is well under way. Construction of this modern new facility is expected to be complete in 2008.

Currently, St. John's Health Center has numerous RN openings (at press time). The openings are in these departments: Oncology; Orthopedics; Women's Health; Med/Surg; ICU; Neurosurgery; Telemetry/Post Critical Care.

From 1942 to today, to an exciting future, St. John's has made its mark in healthcare, is making its mark in healthcare, and will continue to make its mark in healthcare for many years to come.
