Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center Chicago, Illinois

Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center is home to the 824-bed Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital (which includes Rush Children's Hospital), the 110-bed Johnston R. Bowman Health Center, and Rush University. Located at 1650 W. Harrison, on Chicago's Near West Side, Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, is the largest private hospital in all of Illinois. It is also considered to be one of the finest hospitals in the United States today.

Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center specializes in the treatments of: cancer, heart disease, mental illness, neurological disorders, diseases of aging, and orthopedics (including arthritis). There are six different institutes at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical, which are used for the treatment of the aforementioned medical problems. They are: Rush Cancer Institute; Rush Heart Institute; Rush Institute for Mental Well-Being; Rush Neurosciences Institute; Rush Institute for Healthy Aging; and Rush Arthritis and Orthopedics Institute.

Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center became just the 51st medical center in all of the U.S., to be awarded the American Nurses Association's Magnet Award. The Magnet Award is the highest honor given by this prestigious organization.

Also, Modern Maturity magazine, which is published by the AARP, recently published a list of the Top 50 Hospitals in America. (The list was compiled by the Consumer's Checkbook, a consumer watchdog group).  In the listings, Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, is rated the 11th best hospital in the nation. The rankings were formulated using these four criteria: accreditation scores (scores given out by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), physician ratings (how doctors rated a particular hospital), medical mortality rates, and surgical mortality rates.

And in July of 2004, U.S. News and World Report came out with their annual issue in which they rate "America's Best Hospitals". In that particular issue of the news magazine, twelve different specialties offered by Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center were ranked in the top 50 in the nation. Those specialties and their national rankings: Cancer Care- 31st best in the nation; Heart and Heart Surgery- 44th best; Hormonal Disorders- 31st best; Geriatrics- 12th best; Gynecology- 31st best; Kidney Disease- 20th best; Neurology and Neurosurgery- 12th best; Orthopedics- 10th best; Ear, Nose, and Throat- 30th best; Respiratory Diseases- 40th best; Urology- 50th best.
