Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina is a 777-bed hospital, which serves as the flagship for the Carolinas Healthcare System. Opened in 1940, Carolinas Medical Center is classified as an academic medical center teaching hospital, and is one of only five of those in the state of North Carolina.

Some of the many medical specialties offered by Carolinas Medical Center are these: The Women's Institute; The Carolinas Heart Institute; F.H. "Sammy" Ross Trauma Center; Carolinas Poison Center; The Children's Hospital (opened in 1992); Carolinas Neuromuscular/ALS-MDA Center; Carolinas College of Health Sciences; The Transplant Center; Pediatric Resource Center; Nurse Anesthesia Program; Blumenthal Cancer Center; Neuroscience and Spine Institute; Carolinas Laparoscopic and Advanced Surgery Program.

U.S. News and World Report recently ranked Carolinas Medical Center as one of "America's Best Hospitals." In the 2003 edition, the UROLOGY department at Carolinas Medical garnered national recognition, as the magazine ranked it as the country's 40th best. 2003 also marks the fourth straight year in which Carolinas Medical Center has made the list.
