California Pacific Medical Center is actually the combination of three great medical facilities. California Pacific Medical Center was formed when two of the Bay Area's oldest and most respected hospitals got together. (Those were Pacific Presbyterian Hospital and Children's Hospital of San Francisco). Later, those two joined with Davies Medical Center to form what is today, known as California Pacific Medical Center. Pacific Presbyterian is now known as The Pacific Campus, Children's Hospital is now known as The California Campus, and Davies Medical Center is now known as The Davies Campus.

Combined, California Pacific Medical Center is one of the largest, non-profit teaching hospitals in all of California. With over 1250 beds, California Pacific Medical Center is able to offer great care to many patients, some of whom come from around the world, just to get their medical needs taken care of at CPMC.

Offering acute care, California Pacific Medical Center was recently ranked 39th in a survey of The Top 50 Hospitals in America. The survey was done by the folks at Consumer's Checkbook, and was published by Modern Maturity, a publication of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). The survey judged hospitals using various criteria such as: medical mortality rate; surgery mortality rate; physician ratings (where doctors rated hospitals); and accreditation scores (given by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations).

Also, as recently as 2001, the folks at Natural Health magazine named California Pacific Medical Center "The Healthiest Hospital in America."
