St. Vincent?s Hospital Staten Island is a hospital located in Staten Island New York. At St. Vincent's Staten Island, serves its community providing it with high quality inpatient and outpatient services. St. Vincent's Hospital Staten Island enjoys full accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Internationally recognized specialists direct the reproductive medicine center, and operate the high-risk pregnancy center for women requiring special care (designated a Regional Perinatal Center by the New York State Department of Health). In addition, the neonatal intensive care center boasts one of the highest survival rates in the city.
Beginning as a 74-bed facility on a former estate, St. Vincent's Staten Island was founded by the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1903. As the community growth translated in a major demand of services, the hospital witnessed several building expansions, in 1930, 1961, 1978 and, most recently, in 1989. As a result of these expansions the facility was brought to its current bed complement of 440. St. Vincent?s Hospital Staten Island was the first Catholic hospital in New York State to acquire cobalt therapy for the treatment of cancer; the first hospital on Staten Island to offer diagnostic cardiac catheterization; the first to establish a hospice program; and the first to introduce interventional radiology to Staten Island.
