Community Hospital of Long Beach was established in 1924 for a cost of more than $369,000. At the occasion Saint Mary was a religious-centered hospital and Seaside was non-publically owned. The regional leaders of Long Beach, guided by then-Mayor Fillmore Condit, felt that a community health care not-for-profit, non-political and non-sectarian would offer the people with low-cost, at-cost or at no-cost health care services. Community Hospital of Long Beach was two stages, mission-style center with a hundred beds and 175 surgeons and medical doctors. Hospital prices were a day $4 private rooms and $3 normal rooms.
Over the years, Community Hospital of Long Beach has continuously led by a promise to set the biggest standard of health care without losing the warmness of the human handle. When the health center was stopped up in September 2000, it was that spirit of promise from physicians, staff, volunteers and concerned populace that resulted in a structured grass-roots attempt to re-launch Community Hospital of Long Beach in 2001.
