Massachusetts Registered Nurses: Licensing Is Key

Nursing Jobs By State

There are some professional occupations that, due to their great importance and significance, require some sort of licensing in order to practice legally.  In addition, the process for applying and obtaining the license may vary depending on the specific location.  Obviously, being a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts is not the exception to this rule.  In fact, if an individual is willing to apply for a nursing license in another state, there is a specific procedure that must be followed in order for his or her Massachusetts license to be verified.

The one in charge of handling the verification of the Registered Nurse license, as well as the Licensed Practical Nurse one, is the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.  Through their database called NURSYS, nurses are able to verify their nursing licenses in many other states for a $30 fee.  In addition, Registered Nurses in Massachusetts are allowed to hold the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licenses active without deactivating the RN one.  However, RNs have to renew and pay a fee for both licenses.

This renewal follows an automatic method in Massachusetts.  Registered Nurses will receive the renewal forms a month and a half before their corresponding birthdays.  Nevertheless, for this matter, the address must be completely correct.  Renewal, which is, for RNs, made in even years, needs you to affirm that you comply with the law and all the corresponding regulations by signing under the pains and penalties of perjury.  It is important that RNs take into consideration that once the license expires, they could not work as so until the corresponding procedure is carried out.  In this case, the RN must pay an extra fee to the normal one in order to reactivate it.  Therefore, it is good to focus on how licensing works, do you not think?
