Nursing Jobs By State

Nursing is a profession that makes a difference by helping patients obtain the quality care they deserve. Throughout history, many nurses have been an example that everyone should follow not only those who are involved in nursing. Helping others without asking for anything in return is something that everyone should do in order to make of this world a better place to live. Here are some nurses that exemplify this and have inspired others to follow their steps:

Saint Alda or Aldobrandesca was an Italian nurse that became a Christian saint because of the way she devoted all her life to give charity to the poor and take care of the sick. She had religious ecstasies and visions of Jesus and she also performed miracles.

Mary Ann Bickerdyke or Mother Bickerdyke administrated a hospital for Union soldiers during the American Civil War. She quickly became one of the most renown, resourceful and admired Civil War nurses.

Walt Whitman was a great journalist, essayist, humanist and poet. He also served as a voluntary nurse in the American Civil War.

Sophie Mannerheim is known as the pioneer of modern nursing in Finland, despite her death, her legacy remains intact.

Margaret Sanger was a nurse that promoted and founded the birth control movement in the United States.

Kerry Prendergast has been the mayor of Wellington, New Zealand since 2001. Before deciding to enter politics, she worked as a midwife and as a nurse.

Richard H. Carmona is a Vice Admiral that became the 17th Surgeon General of the United States Public Health Service. He worked in the medical field as a registered nurse, paramedic and physician.
