Become a Nurse

Nursing Jobs By State

If you want to become a nurse first you have to consider that it?s not an easy job; in fact it demands a lot of physical and emotional effort.

Not everyone has what it takes to become a nurse. If you are not capable of being caring, affable and establish empathy with patients then you chose the wrong profession. A nurse needs to have good observation and communication skills.

Nurses have to deal with a variety of critical and demanding scenarios as well as emotional situations like having to deal with injured, sick or dying people. They have to make quick decisions based on their judgment of the information that they receive.

But that?s not all; leadership has to be a part of their personality, this characteristic is fundamental because it will help them become nurse supervisors eventually. In addition to this leadership nurse supervisors need great administrative and negotiating skills.

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) must take a 1 year training program that features a supervised clinical practice in which they take care of patients as well as classes.

A nursing degree from an approved nursing program is required in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

This kind of degree can be obtained by taking a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN), an associate degree in nursing (ADN) or a Diploma.

Topics like microbiology, psychology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and medication administration, nursing ethics and legal issues in the practice of nursing are part of any nursing course.
