Located in our nation's capital is one of the finest hospitals in America, Washington Hospital Center. This 907-bed hospital is the largest private teaching hospital in D.C. Founded in 1958, when three medical centers merged into one, Washington Hospital Center offers primary, secondary, and tertiary care to adult and neonatal patients. Located on a 47-acre campus in Northwest Washington D.C., Washington Hospital Center treats more than 280,000 patients annually.

Washington Hospital Center is home to seven different Centers of Excellence. They are: Washington Heart (cardiac care), Washington Cancer Institute, Women's Services, Washington National Eye Center, Transplantation Services, Emergency Department/Trauma Center, and The Burn Center.

Washington Hospital Center was recently ranked 29th in a survey of The Top 50 Hospitals in America. The survey was done by Consumer's Checkbook, and was published in Modern Maturity, a publication of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). The survey judged hospitals using various criteria such as: medical mortality rate, surgical mortality rate, physician ratings (how doctors rate a particular hospital), and accreditation scores (scores given by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations). Also, Consumer's Checkbook (in Modern Maturity) recognized four different specialties offered at Washington Hospital Center as being among our nation's best: cardiac care, renal care, infectious diseases, and pulmonary care.

U.S. News and World Report, in its 2004 edition on "America's Best Hospitals", gives high praise to Washington Hospital Center. It ranks two different departments at Washington Hospital Center as being among our nation's best. Those departments and their national rankings: hormonal diseases- 30th best in the nation, and heart and heart surgery- 15th best in the nation.

Also, in survey after survey, Washingtonians have named Washington Hospital Center as their "hospital of choice" over all other D.C. area hospitals.
