In the 2004 edition of U.S. News and World Report, in which that magazine rates "America's Best Hospitals", Vanderbilt University Hospital was rated as one of the best hospitals in the nation. Also, nine different specialties at Vanderbilt University Hospital were listed among the best in the nation. Those specialties and their national rankings are: cancer- 18th best in the nation; ear, nose, and throat- 15th best; gynecology- 36th best; hormonal disorders- 19th best; kidney disease- 8th best; orthopedics- 24th best; respiratory disorders- 15th best; neurology and neurosurgery- 38th best; and urology 21st best.
