University of Washington Medical Center is located on the University of Washington campus in beautiful Seattle, Washington. University of Washington Medical Center is a 450-bed hospital, and is one of two teaching hospitals for the University of Washington School of Medicine. Having opened in 1959, University of Washington Medical Center has quickly gained a reputation as one of the nation's finest healthcare providers.

U.S. News and World Report, it its 2004 edition touting "America's Best Hospitals", gave University of Washington Medical Center very high marks. The medical center was rated the nation's 8th best hospital (overall). Also, in that same magazine, 13 of the specialties offered by University of Washington Medical Center were rated as being among the best in the nation. Those specialties and their national rankings: rheumatology- 18th best in the nation; respiratory disorders- 14th best; rehabilitation services- 2nd best; orthopedics- 9th best; hormonal disorders- 7th best; ear, nose, and throat- 12th best; cancer- 10th best; digestive disorders- 10th best; gynecology- 20th best; kidney disease- 16th best; geriatrics- 10th best; urology- 27th best; neurology and neurosurgery- 17th best.

University of Washington Medical Center is home to a National Clinical Research Center (which was the nation's first). University of Washington Medical Center has also been the site of several other "firsts": the site of the nation's first long term kidney dialysis; the site of the nation's first multidisciplinary pain center; the site of the Northwest's first heart transplant; the site of the Northwest's first total knee transplant.
