University of North Carolina Hospitals includes all of these fine healthcare facilities: North Carolina Memorial Hospital, North Carolina Children's Hospital, North Carolina Women's Hospital, and North Carolina Neurosciences Hospital. University of North Carolina Hospitals provide medical care for patients from all 100 of North Carolina's counties, as well as for people from surrounding states.

University of North Carolina Hospitals are nationally renowned. In the 2004 U.S. News and World Report edition, which ranked "America's Best Hospitals", University of North Carolina Hospitals had one of the nation's best overall ratings. Also, in 7 different categories, specialties at University of North Carolina Hospitals were rated among the best in the nation. Those specialties and ratings are: ear, nose, and throat- 22nd best in the nation; geriatrics- 34th best; kidney disease- 22nd best; gynecology- 29th best; digestive disorders- 14th best; cancer- 29th best; urology- 43rd best.

University of North Carolina Hospitals was ranked 18th in a survey of The Top 50 Hospitals in America. The survey was done by Consumer's Checkbook, and was published in Modern Maturity, a publication of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). The survey judged hospitals using various criteria such as: medical mortality rate, surgical mortality rate, physician ratings (where doctors rate a particular hospital), and accreditation scores (scores given by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations).

Obviously, to get those kind of rankings, you have to have great doctors, nurses, and support staff. As for the doctors at University of North Carolina Hospitals, 54 of them were listed in "America's Top Doctors", a book that is published by Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd. That total (54) is the 22nd highest of any hospital in the nation.

And University of North Carolina Hospitals has plenty of great nurses. But, they need more. As of press time, there were numerous openings for nurses at the University of North Carolina Hospitals.
