Located at 190 E. Bannock Street in downtown Boise, St. Luke's Regional Medical Center is one of the top hospitals in all of the Northwestern United States. Founded in 1902 by the Rt. Reverend James B. Funsten, this hospital has grown considerably in its 100+ years of existence. Back in 1902, St. Luke's was a 6-bed hospital, while today St. Luke's Regional Medical Center is a 332 bed tertiary care center. St. Luke's is now recognized as a multi-state leader in heart, cancer, and women's and children's care.

St. Luke's Regional Medical Center is Idaho's only children's hospital. At the children's hospital are both a Newborn Intensive Care Unit and a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. And, last year, over 5,600 babies were delivered at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center.

Also, St. Luke's Regional Medical Center is home to the Mountain States Tumor Institute, which is the state's busiest cancer center. Physicians at the tumor institute see over 70,000 patients annually. The National Research Corporation annually polls consumers on their choices for a listing of "America's Best Hospitals". In the years 2000, 2001, and 2002, St. Luke's Regional Medical Center made that list. Hospitals are rated using these criteria: hospital quality, physician accessibility, preventative health behaviors, and overall medical care.

At press time, St. Luke's Regional Medical Center had numerous openings on its nursing staff. An example of this is the fact that St. Luke's Regional Medical Center recently became just the 39th hospital in the country to win a coveted Magnet Award.
