St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee is the largest private hospital in the state of Wisconsin. Located at 2900 W. Oklahoma Avenue (on Milwaukee's south side), St. Luke's Medical Center is well known for the care that it provides. Especially noteworthy is the care provided in these areas: cancer care, bariatric surgery services, women's services, digestive services, hyperbaric medicine, and cardiac care.

Cancer treatment and diagnosis is provided at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center. The care provided by the doctors and nurses at Vince Lombardi Cancer Center is some of the best that you will find anywhere.

Cardiac care at St. Luke's Medical Center has a national reputation as well. More than 25 heart care "firsts" for either the state, region, or nation occurred at St. Luke's Medical Center. In 2004, St. Luke's Medical Center will open the new Heart Tower. The Heart Tower is a multi-story facility that will allow St. Luke's Medical Center to stay at the forefront of cardiac care. With the most up-to-date medical technology, The Heart Tower will house some of the most innovative cardiac care and treatment options in the nation.

The American Nurses Association has recognized St. Luke's Medical Center. The ANA awarded St. Luke's Medical Center a Magnet Award, which is given to hospitals/medical centers for excellence in nursing. Only 74 U.S. hospitals/medical centers have achieved Magnet status.

Also, AARP in its publication, Modern Maturity, listed The Top 50 Hospitals in America. The compilations were done by Consumer's Checkbook, a consumer watchdog group. In the 2002 rankings, St. Luke's Medical Center was ranked as the 40th best hospital in the nation. The criteria used in ranking the hospitals are these: physician ratings (how doctors rate a particular hospital), accreditation scores (scores given by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), medical mortality rate, surgical mortality rate.

Also, U.S. News and World Report, it is 2002 issue on "America's Best Hospitals", acknowledged St. Luke's Medical Center. They rated the orthopedic care provided by St. Luke's Medical Center as being the 48th best in the nation.
