St. Francis Hospital of Roslyn, New York is generally recognized as one of our nation's leading hospitals for cardiovascular care and surgery. Also, St. Francis was recently ranked the 3rd best (overall) hospital in the country, in a survey of the Top 50 Hospitals in America. The survey was done by Modern Maturity magazine, a publication put out by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).

St. Francis was founded in 1922, when two Sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, happened upon a benefactor named Carlos Munson. The two nuns were going door-to-door, selling cloths to support their missionary work, when they met Mr. Munson. Mr. Munson, who was the owner of Munson Steamship Lines, offered a donation of 15 acres of land and a house to the sisters. The land and home were to be used as a summer camp for inner city children. Eventually, things evolved to where, the house and land became a place where children were given medical treatment.

Eventually, in 1954, St. Francis opened its doors to adult patients. Even back then, St. Francis was already developing a reputation for its treatment of cardiovascular diseases. In 1979, St. Francis Hospital became New York State's only specialty designated heart center. And with the recruitment of renowned cardiovascular specialists in the 1980s, St. Francis became New York State's leading heart center, performing the highest caseload of open-heart surgery and cardiac catherizations. Fast forward to today and you'll note that St. Francis is recognized as not only the best Heart Care and Heart Surgery hospital in New York, but quite possibly the best such hospital in America.

At press time, there were numerous nursing positions which were available at St. Francis Hospital. St. Francis Hospital of Roslyn- still the kind of place that those two Sisters would be proud of.
