Founded in 1865, St. Barnabas Medical Center is now the oldest and largest non-profit hospital in all of New Jersey. (It is also non-sectarian). With over 640 beds, this nationally renowned hospital is well equipped to take care of a lot of patients, and it does. Last year alone, St. Barnabas Medical Center treated over 40,000 inpatients. Also, 60,000 people were treated in the Emergency Department. And, over 7,000 babies were delivered at St. Barnabas Medical Center.

St. Barnabas has over 1500 physicians on staff (from 68 different specialties).

The AARP magazine, Modern Maturity, recently listed the Top 50 Hospitals in America. (The consumer watchdog group, Consumer's Checkbook, did the rankings). In those rankings, St. Barnabas was ranked as the 13th best in the nation (overall)! Those rankings are based on these four criteria: medical mortality rate; surgical mortality rate; physician ratings; and accreditation score (score given by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations).
