Inova Fairfax Hospital, of Falls Church, Virginia, is a 753-bed hospital that provides medical services for the entire Washington, D.C. area. Inova Fairfax Hospital is a teaching hospital for both doctors and nurses. (It is affiliated with the medical schools of George Washington University, Georgetown University and the Medical College of Virginia, and with the nursing schools of George Mason University, Marymount University, and Northern Virginia Community College).

Inova Fairfax Hospital has received recognition for being not only one of the area's best hospitals, but also for being one of the nation's best hospitals. Recently, Inova Fairfax Hospital was ranked the 24th best hospital in the country, in a survey that was featured in Modern Maturity magazine. (Modern Maturity is published by AARP). The survey was conducted by Consumers' Checkbook, who based their rankings on these criteria: medical mortality rates, surgical mortality rates, physician's ratings (how doctors rated a particular hospital), and accreditation scores (scores given by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations).

And, in 2004 issue of U.S. News and World Report which ranks "America's Best Hospitals", seven different specialties at Inova Fairfax Hospital were nationally ranked by that prestigious magazine. Those specialties and their national rankings: Cancer Care- 46th best in the nation; Heart and Heart Surgery- 28th best; Hormonal Disorders- 25th best; Digestive Disorders- 41st best; Geriatrics- 46th best; Gynecology- 50th best; and Urology- 37th best.
