Auto pioneer Henry Ford founded Henry Ford Hospital of Detroit, Michigan, back in 1915. Now a part of the greater Henry Ford Health System, Henry Ford Hospital is a 903-bed facility offering tertiary care to the people of Detroit and surrounding areas. Located at 2799 W. Grand Boulevard in Detroit, Henry Ford Hospital is home to a Level I Trauma Center, and a multi-organ transplantation center.

The AARP magazine, Modern Maturity, recently listed the TOP 50 HOSPITALS IN AMERICA. (The consumer watchdog group, Consumer's Checkbook, did the rankings). In those rankings, Henry Ford Hospital was ranked as the 45th best overall hospital in the nation. Those rankings are based on these four criteria: medical mortality rate, surgical mortality rate, physician ratings (how doctors rate a particular hospital), and accreditation scores (score given by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations).

Also, in the U.S. News and World Report 2004 issue detailing "America's Best Hospitals", nine different specialties from Henry Ford Hospital were listed, as being among the nation's best. The programs and their national rankings: cancer- 44th best; digestive disorders- 49th best; ear, nose, and throat- 37th best; heart and heart surgery- 34th best; hormonal disorders- 32nd best; kidney disease- 32nd best; neurology and neurosurgery- 25th best; respiratory disorders- 29th best; urology- 42nd best.
