Grant Medical Center, located in downtown Columbus, Ohio, is a 640-bed teaching and research medical center. Founded back in 1900, but a true medical pioneer, Dr. James Fairchild Baldwin, Grant Medical Center is today one of the finest hospitals in the Midwest, and arguably one of the finest in the country.

When Dr. Baldwin first opened Grant Medical Center, the hospital had just 50 beds and 30 doctors on staff. As you can see (with 640 beds now) Grant Medical Center has grown considerably.

Under the leadership of Dr. Baldwin, Grant Medical Center was home to many medical firsts. Here are some examples of medical firsts that were implemented by Dr. Baldwin at Grant Medical Center: a) the first to champion the practice of nurse-anesthetists; b) the first to have phones in patients' hospital rooms; c) the first to scrub arms and wear short sleeved operating gowns, so as to prevent the spread of germs; d) the first in Columbus to offer anesthesia to women in labor; e) among the first to wear rubber gloves during surgery; and many others.

Today, Grant Medical Center offers many different services to the patients that it treats. Among the medical specialties offered by Grant Medical Center are: Grant Orthopedic Institute; Grant Laser Center; Grant Wound Center; Women's Services; Cancer Services; Heart and Vascular Services; Maternity Services; Neurosciences; Ophthalmology.

In 2003, when U.S. News and World Report released its' annual list of "America's Best Hospitals," Grant Medical Center made the list, as the orthopedic care offered by the hospital was ranked as being the 35th best in the nation.

Grant Medical Center has already provided over one hundred years of quality medical care to the folks of Columbus and the surrounding region. The hospital has a great staff of doctors, nurses, and support personnel, so that quality of medical care should continue to be among the best found anywhere.
