When the folks at U.S. News and World Report, do a compilation of America's Best Hospitals, invariably that list, even if it's a short one, will include Emory University Hospital of Atlanta, Georgia. Since 1915, when it was founded, Emory University Hospital has not only provided quality healthcare services, it has also been at the forefront of medical research. A lot of the medical procedures, which are commonly used today, were first tried at Emory University Hospital.

Emory University Hospital was recently named on of the 50 BEST HOSPITALS in AMERICA by the folks at the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons). In AARP's Modern Maturity magazine, Emory University was rated 41st overall in the nation. Those rankings are based on these criteria: physician ratings (how doctors rate a particular hospital), surgical mortality rate, medical mortality rate, and accreditation score (given by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations).

Also, as mentioned at the top of this article, the periodical U.S. News and World Report recently ranked Emory University Hospital as one of our nation's finest. And, seven different departments within Emory University Hospital received high marks from the magazine. For example, Emory University was rated: 17th best in nation for Ophthalmology, 8th best in the nation for heart care and heart surgery, 21st best in the nation for kidney disease, 18th best in the nation for psychiatry, 40th best in the nation for urology, 40th best for gynecology and 27th best for geriatrics.
