St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla

Nursing Jobs By State

St. Mary Medical Center is located in Walla Walla, Washington, and features some of the best technology, expertise, specialists and primary care physicians in the region. St. Mary Medical Center is a full-service, non-profit hospital with a long tradition of excellence in caring. When the Sisters of Providence opened it in 1880, it was the first non-military hospital in Washington State east of the Cascades. Today, St. Mary Medical Center is licensed for 142 beds and is one of the largest employers in the city. St. Mary Medical Center is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and participates in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Its medical care and diagnostic services attract patients from all around the region.

St. Mary Medical Center's history began in 1863, when Mother Joseph and St. Catherine arrived in the little town of Walla Walla, Washington. A local banker, Edmund Barron, donated two blocks of land for a hospital, academy and institutions. The need for a dedicated hospital building grew stronger as the town developed. St. Mary Hospital opened January, 1880, but the building was quickly outgrown. In 1883, a new St. Mary Hospital was constructed and the former building was converted into a new home for St. Vincent's Academy. On its 35th anniversary, a tragedy struck St. Mary Hospital as a fire burned it to the ground in 1915. Made of brick and stone, and standing five stories high, a new St. Mary Hospital was built on the ashes of the former. A new hospital building, the current St. Mary, opened in March, 1976. The Medical Center has since grown and improved technologically to best answer to the community's needs.

St. Mary Medical Center provides a complete selection of medical services in a comfortable, caring environment. Some of the healthcare services and programs offered at St. Mary Medical Center include: Cancer Center, Cardiology, Community Breast Center, Ear, Nose, & Throat, Emergency Department, Family Birth Center, Gastroenterology, Home Health, Imaging Nephrology, Occupational Medicine, Orthopedics, Palliative Care, Pulmonary and Critical Care, Rehabilitation, Sleep Disorders Center, Surgery, Transitional Care, Urgent Care and Urology.
