St. Francis Community Hospital is conveniently located near the center of Federal Way, and is able to serve the communities of Federal Way, Auburn, Des Moines, Fife, Highline, Kent, Milton, Puyallup, and northeast Tacoma. St. Francis Community Hospital is fully accredited by the joint commission on accreditation of health care organizations (JCAHO) and participates in Medicare and Medicaid programs. The hospital counts with 110 certified beds and is part of the Franciscan Health System. Franciscan Health System is a comprehensive health care organization that includes St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma; St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood; St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way; an expanding network of primary-care and specialty-care clinics throughout Pierce and South King counties; Franciscan Hospice House in University Place; and the Franciscan Care Center of Tacoma.
The history of St. Francis Hospital began when the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia founded St. Joseph Medical Center in 1891. By 1906, it was women?s hospital of choice for having their babies. In 1990, St. Francis Community Hospital joined St. Clare Hospital and St. Joseph Medical Center to form Franciscan Health System. The Outpatient Center at St. Francis Hospital was opened and it offered Diagnostic Imaging, Day Surgery, GI Lab, Radiation, Oncology, and Rehabilitation Services. Ever since the Sisters of St. Francis founded St. Joseph Medical Center back in 1891, Franciscan Health System has grown with the enduring goal of fulfilling the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of those it serves.
