Calvary Hospital is the only fully accredited acute care specialty hospital exclusively providing palliative care for adult advanced cancer patients in the United States. Calvary Hospital is a fully certified 255 bed facility committed to kindness, non-abandonment, and exceptional care for each patient. Calvary Hospital is based in the Bronx, New York with a campus in Brooklyn. It provides palliative care which is the active treatment of the symptoms, not the cure of the disease, to make the patients as comfortable as possible. Calvary Hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). The hospital participates with the Medicare program as well as with Medicaid.

Organized, staffed, and operated by Calvary Hospital on Lutheran Medical Center?s third floor, The Brooklyn Campus, a 25-bed "hospital-within-a-hospital," is the first of its kind in New York. Lutheran Medical Center is the ideal strategic partner for Calvary enhancing both institutions through shared knowledge and care. The Palliative Care Institute (PCI) at Calvary Hospital was established with the vision of becoming a renowned foundation for education and research in the field of palliative care. It functions as part of the medical department and actively cooperates with all administrative and clinical sectors throughout the Hospital.

Calvary Hospital?s programs include inpatient care, pain management, outpatient care, hospice, home care with bereavement and support programs for families and friends. Home Care services are developed to meet the physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of patients and their families while ensuring the dignity and self respect of each individual. Calvary Hospital Hospice is a Medicare-certified Hospice program, which provides an interdisciplinary care team for patients with a terminal prognosis for all end-stage diseases. With a staff consisting in Chaplains trained to attend to the spiritual needs of patients and families, The Department of Pastoral Services is an integral part of the hospital?s commitment to compassionate care.
