Taking its name from the community that it serves, Fort Walton Beach Medical Center first started operations in 1974, and today it?s a 247-bed acute care facility, fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and licensed by the State of Florida. In 2003, the center completed a $45 million dollar expansion and renovation project that encompasses five new operating suites, a new outpatient pre-operative surgery area, a new Progressive Care Wing, a new Intensive Care/Coronary Care Unit, a new MRI/Cat Scan Suite, a new Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit and an additional Cardiac Catheterization Lab, as well as the renovation of all the existing departments of the facility. The latest addition to the facility is the Cancer Care Center, which opened to the public in 2005. With all these investments, Fort Walton Beach Medical Center is nothing short of an amazing hospital, offering state-of-the-art technology and the highest standards of quality in the services provided by its departments, which include Emergency, Gynecology, Laboratory, Surgery, Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, Neurology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Nutritional Services, Ophthalmology, Physical Therapy, Urology, Trauma, Ultrasound and Rehab Center among many others.

Fort Walton Beach Medical Center is home to a Cancer Care Center, a Heart Center and a Vascular Center, the crown jewels of the facility, and it was awarded the 2005 Workplace Excellence Award Winner.
