As the materialization of an idea conceived by Leonard Pleskow and a small group of community psychiatrists, BryLin Hospital opened its doors in what used to be a nursing home located at the corner of Linwood and Bryant, in 1955. An addition was made in 1958 increasing the facility?s maximum capacity. In 1976 Addiction Medicine Services began and by 1982, that department was certified by the Division of Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse for 14 additional beds. In 1985, a new outpatient facility for the treatment of chemical dependency opened. One year later the outpatient clinic expanded and relocated to the Seton Office Building. BryLin kept on growing adding more services and units and in 1995 receives its accreditation and an honor due to his position of top 4% of all hospitals in the U. S.

BryLin Hospitals' mission is to provide high quality, individualized services for persons with psychiatric and substance abuse problems. The Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Program focuses on each child?s unique emotional and developmental experiences that may be distressing their behavior in family, school, or other kind of social situations. The Adult Behavioral Health Program focuses on psychiatric stabilization and symptom management for adults suffering from individual or dual diagnosis psychiatric disorders. The Older Adult Behavioral Health Program attends to chronic diseases associated with aging and the emotional pressures of coping with life changes and losses that can lead to mental disorders.
