Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, situated along the coast of San Diego's North County, joined the Scripps system in 1978. The hospital is licensed as a 140 bed acute-care facility and has more than 700 employees. Scripps Encinitas offers a full range of clinical and surgical services counting with a 24-hour emergency services, intensive care, cancer/oncology, nuclear medicine, radiology, orthopedics, neurology, urology, ophthalmology and an ambulatory surgery center. Specialty services and programs based on the campus include the Scripps Rehabilitation Center, Spine Program, Leichtag Family Birth Pavilion, cancer services, outpatient imaging center and kidney dialysis.

Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas is part of Scripps Health which is a not-for-profit, community-based health care delivery network in San Diego, California, that includes four acute-care hospitals on five campuses, more than 2,600 affiliated physicians, an extensive ambulatory care network, home health care and associated support services.
It all started in 1890, when the Sisters of Mercy, led by Sister Mary Michael Cummings, opened a five-bed dispensary on Sixth Avenue and Market Street in downtown San Diego. Then in 1924, Ellen Browning Scripps establishes the 44-bed Scripps Hospital and Scripps Metabolic Clinic on Prospect Street in La Jolla. The Scripps Health started to progressively grow and in 1978, San Dieguito Hospital became Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas.

Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas strives to provide greater health services in a compassionate environment and presents a wide range of them: The Ambulatory Surgery Center planned for the most favorable patient expediency, the surgery center features admission and discharge in the same 24-hour period. The Spine program providing diagnosis and treatment for a diversity of disorders of the neck and spine, including minimally invasive surgery for ruptured disks and correction of spinal deformities. And, the Leichtag Family Birth Pavilion offering both physician and midwife assisted birthing, the pavilion is based on family-centered care; are just some examples of what is available at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas.
