The University of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Center (UTHCPC) is one of the facilities of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. This institution is dedicated to providing complete programs of psychiatric services to adults, adolescents and children who suffer from mental diseases. This medical center provides inpatient, outpatient and intensive outpatient health services and offers its services to more than 6,000 inpatients and approximately 3,000 outpatients per year. The patients are treated by a highly experienced and qualified staff that provides individualized care. This staff is composed by psychiatric physicians (internist, consultant and others), psychologists, psychiatric residents, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, occupational therapists, chaplains and dietitians.
The patients who are treated in this facility are referred form the Harris County Mental Health Retardation Authority, other hospitals as well as other private physicians. The UTHCPC is placed in the center of the Texas Medical Center. Their physicians are also active members of the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. The mission of the UTHCPC is focused in the excellent quality of the services they provide as well as to keep growing to treat people with mental disorders or diseases. They are also committed to research about the cause and treatment of mental illnesses and educating new professionals in the care of patients that suffer those illnesses.
