First opening doors in 1952, Marin General Hospital (MGH) is a non-profit medical center with a clear mission: provide the basis for a healthier community by means of education and accessible, high quality health care. Located in Greenbrae, CA, and equipped with 235 beds, Marin General Hospital is the largest acute care hospital in Marin County, and it is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Thanks to its affiliation to Sutter Health, Marin General Hospital is part of a network of 27 medical centers in California and Hawaii that offers its services to over a 100 communities. Only in the year 2004, Marin General Hospital provided $50,701,000 to support 92 community programs and services that benefited some 60,500 people. This spending consisted primarily of charity care and un-reimbursed care. Marin General Hospital has not received support from taxpayers since 1976.

Marin General Hospital offers a wide variety services to the community: Angioplasty, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Atrial Fibrillation, Behavioral Health, Cardiac Specialty Unit, Chaplaincy Program, Emergency Department, Diagnostic Special Procedures Suite, Family Birthing Center, Hearing and Speech, General Surgical Unit, Institute for Health and Healing Program,  Imaging Services, Laboratory, Intensive Care Unit, Lithotripsy, Lactation Center, Marin Cancer Institute, The Marin Hospitalist Medical Group, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Center (MRI), Medical Units, Marin Mammography and Breast Health Center, Nuclear Medicine, Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatrics, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, Respiratory Care, Radiation Therapy, Surgery Center of Marin, Surgery and Shared Care Unit.

Through the Marin Community Health Foundation, funds are raised to sustain the operation of the hospital. Since 1985, more than $50 million have been channeled through the foundation. This allows Marin General Hospital to operate self sufficiently, and additionally, to provide programs for the poor, elderly, infants, children and youth, the homeless and mentally ill, as well as other populations with severe health problems, including patients affected by cancer, AIDS/HIV, and victims of sexual abuse.
