During the early 50?s, Bakersfield Memorial Hospital was founded by citizen leaders and healthcare professionals who brought about a campaign, and provided the means to make available a healthcare hospital for the community; when it opened its doors for the first time, it had 112-beds and the service of specialists and volunteers, giving it the name and reputation it has nowadays: a successful and growing healthcare service.

This facility now provides the community with more than 250 beds with general acute service, besides the 45 specialty intensive care, 13 surgery rooms, an emergency room totally equipped with up-to-date technology, and post-anesthesia care. Other exceptional healthcare services are a birthing canter, 4 cardiac catheterization labs, out patient surgery, and self-supporting behavioral health chemical dependency facility.
