Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation opened its doors in 1981 to help people overcome serious disabilities and restore their lives into fullness and productivity. The clinical staff of this 116-bed not-for-profit institute offers intense, highly specialized rehabilitation services for strokes, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and other orthopaedic and neurological disorders. Physiatrists are physicians that specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation, they lead interdisciplinary clinical teams. In 2005, Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation was named one of the top rehabilitation hospitals according to the ?America?s Best Hospitals? guide of U.S. News & World Report. In the United States, 16 programs received a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model System Grant from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) and Baylor Rehab is one of those. TBI Model Systems study the course of recovery and outcomes following TBI.
