In 1925, the Southwestern General Hospital was opened as a Sanatorium for tubercular patients; however, in 1936, it became a hospital and in 1937 was renamed to Southwestern General Hospital; also, new services were added in that period and since 1991, a group of local investors bought the hospital and in that moment several renovations in the levels of services and equipments became for the Southwestern General Hospital. Nowadays, the hospital offers pediatric, laboratory, general medical/surgical, 24 hour emergency department, inpatient and outpatient surgery, likewise, intensive care unit, obstetrics and physical therapy.
It also offers radiology and cardio-pulmonary services equipped with the latest equipments to provide and guarantee the patients high technology diagnoses and treatments. The pediatric unit is staffed by caring nurses certified in Pediatric and/or Neonatal Advanced Life Support to guarantee the best attention of the patients. In the laboratory, patients are provided of services in chemistry, hematology/coagulation, blood bank, microbiology and serology.
