Devereux Texas Treatment Network is a non-profit organization that provides services for people with educational, developmental & emotional disabilities. The foundation of Devereux Texas Treatment Network began in 1912 when an educator from Philadelphia called Helena T. Devereux took an extraordinary interest in the youngsters that her colleagues considered ?slow.? She is considered a pioneer of special education; Helena T. Devereux believed that each student that was assigned to her could learn and grow in an environment designed to meet his/her needs, the philosophy of this woman was that ?every child is a program?; she went beyond the role that teachers normally have; for her, the classroom constituted just a segment of the learning opportunities of life, meaning that recreation, socialization and daily living skills prepare the stage for productive experiences.
Today, 6,000 staff members of all levels are in charge of providing quality professional care to more than 15,000 people per year, including adults, adolescents and children from 43 states and five foreign countries. Devereux Texas Treatment Network provides services in hospitals, campus-based programs, communities, schools and at home. Devereux has a continuum of care for adults, adolescents and children, ranging from special education day schools, foster care homes, supervised apartments, transitional living arrangements, partial hospitalization, hospital inpatient and outpatient settings, respite care programs, community-based group homes and residential and day treatment programs. This organization has centers in Arizona, Beneto, California, Cleo Wallace, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Glenholme, Kanner, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Pocono, Santa Barbara, Texas and Whitlock.
