Covenant Health System: Services for All the Family

Nursing Jobs By State

The Covenant Health System (CHS) was created from the merger of the two oldest health cares of the city of Lubbock, Texas on June 10th, 1998. On January 1st, 1918 the old Methodist Hospital combined its services with the 25-bed Lubbock Sanitarium. After that combination the facility was known with the name of Lubbock General Hospital in 1941 and four years later its name was changed again to Lubbock Memorial Hospital. Today that fusion is known as the Covenant Medical Center.

The St. Mary Hospital was established in 1937. For those times the hospital was operated with only 10 beds. It was also known with the name of Plains Hospital and Clinic but on July 15th, 1939 it changed its name into St. Mary of the Plains Hospital. It changed its name when the sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, CA acquired the medical center. These sisters are also the owners of the St. Joseph Health System which is one of the most flourishing not-for-profit health care services provider in the US. The CHS is also member of that system. Years later the St. Mary Hospital became the Covenant Medical Center Lakeside.

Nowadays, the CHS is still located in the city of Lubbock, TX. and is recognized as the biggest health care services provider in the regions of west Texas and eastern New Mexico. It is operated through 1,338 licensed beds, more than 600 physicians and approximately 4,500 dedicated employees. If you or someone you know needs the services of a recognized healthcare institution, go to the facilities of Covenant Health System.
