Fletcher Allen Health Care is a community hospital and the academic health center of Vermont (in partnership with the University of Vermont). This community hospital has the mission of improving the health of the people of the communities of Vermont by integrating research, education and patient care in a caring environment. As a community hospital, Fletcher Allen Health Care serves approximately 150,000 residents in Grand Isle and Chittenden counties, providing primary care services at nine Vermont sites. This organization also offers a wide range of free wellness, prevention and health programs to the community; all of these programs help to limit the need for more expensive acute care.
The partnership between Fletcher Allen Health Care, the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the University of Vermont College of Medicine is what forms the academic health center of Vermont (one of just 125 health centers in the country). These three institutions are willing to help to improve the quality of life of the region with innovations in health care and medicine. The medical center of Fletcher Allen has three main campuses in the Burlington area, more than 100 outreach clinics, 40 patient care sites, services and programs.
The specialized services that Fletcher Allen Health Care offers to the region are: a Level I Trauma Center, Cardiac Care Services, the Vermont Cancer Center at the University of Vermont/Fletcher Allen, the Breast Care Center, Imaging, Women's Health, Neonatal Intensive Care, Advanced Pediatric Care, Psychiatry, Neurological Surgery, Orthopaedics, Stroke Care and the General Clinical Research Center at Fletcher Allen/University of Vermont.
