In 1902, Gaylord Hospital was founded as a tuberculosis sanatorium providing long-term treatment during the 50 years when the disease was epidemic. Gaylord turned its expertise, after the discovery of medications that successfully curbed the disease's progress in the 1950's, to other forms of rehabilitation. Gaylord Hospital became a renowned institution among health care professionals throughout southern New England and metropolitan New York.
Gaylord Hospital offers a wide range of health care services ranging from the Medically Complex Program and inpatient rehabilitation programs to outpatient services and sleep medicine. The Inpatient Services offer the Medical Division or the Rehabilitation Division, depending on their individual needs. Board certified physicians help diagnose sleep disorders resulting from respiratory and neurological causes and is the largest provider of sleep medicine in Connecticut. Furthermore, the hospital features more than 50 services that improve treatment programs.
