Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital started operation in August 1975 as a result of initiative, leadership and community support. The hospital, which had one hundred beds by that time, offered the community of Santa Clarita Valley fully licensed intensive and coronary care units along with a paramedic base station, among other critical programs. In order to raise funds for the purchase of the hospital's most important requirements, to support community-hospital partnerships, to foster volunteerism and to encourage positive community awareness, local business and community leaders formed the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation in 1984.
Nowadays, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is a not-for-profit community hospital and trauma center that has 217 beds. It is located in the heart of the Santa Clarita Valley and is dedicated to serve this Californian community in order to improve its health through compassion and excellence in health care services. Some of these services are: the Acute Rehabilitation Unit, known for its caring and compassionate team, is specially designed for progressive rehabilitation. Cancer Care at Henry Mayo is considered one of its best services, with highly experienced oncologists and counts with strong community partnership. One of the hospital's newest efforts, the Tobacco Cessation Program is based on many successful programs and follows the clinical practice guidelines for treating tobacco use and dependence.
