Becoming a Registered Nurse in California

Nursing Jobs By State

If you feel you are interested in becoming a Registered Nurse in California, there are some basic aspects you should be aware of.  One of those aspects lies in the fact that there are some fundamental steps that are required to be followed.  The first one of them refers to taking college preparatory classes in high school, and this, of course, includes the requirement of having a high-school diploma.  In addition, some particular courses, which are English (4 years), Science, encompassing chemistry and biology (2 - 4 years), Math, comprising geometry and algebra (3 - 4 years) and Social Studies (3 - 4 years), must be taken first.  In addition, having studied a foreign language for two years is a plus.

Making up your mind about the type of nursing you would like to attend is the second step.  For this matter, you should know that, in this state, you are able to choose among three types of nursing programs, which are the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and Masters Entry Level Program in Nursing.  The three of them enclose different features and options as well.

The third step deals with applying for admission at the college that you already selected.  For this matter, there are about 100 alternatives that you can choose from.  In addition, you should also pay attention to the particular exams you have to take.  Some of them ask for the National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Exam or ACT or SAT.  As a fourth step, you are allowed to apply for a financial aid.  Finally, you have to obtain a RN license issued by the California State Board of Registered Nursing, the BRN.  Likewise, some requirements must be satisfied to apply for this license.  Good Luck!
